About me

I thought it was about time that I tweaked my blog and wrote a tiny bit more about myself.

I'm a future lawyer who considers London her home. I've spent the last year or so in Singapore with my fiancé, but will be moving back permanently mid-September. I was born in Estonia and most of my family still lives there. I come from quite a big family - I've got two sisters and a baby brother - and whenever I go back I really enjoy spending time with all of them and also cooking for them as making something for 5-6 people is a lot more fun than trying to come up with something for two that doesn't result in leftovers we have to eat for the next couple of days.

I have to be a bit honest here. The reason I started this blog was to learn how to cook properly. I've always been a natural when it came to baking cakes, but I had a slight problem with "proper" food. I realised that after I moved out and started living alone I kept making the same dishes over and over. And I'm not proud to admit it, but quite a lot of the stuff I made was semi ready-made - pre-mixed pasta sauces, ready-mixed curries ... You get the picture. Of course there were a couple of things that I knew how to make from scratch and I made those as well, but I soon realised that it would be nice to have a bit more variety when it came to food and unfortunately living off cakes wasn't really an option. And although I had never blogged before I thought that having a food blog to accompany me on my journey for more interesting (and healthier) home cooked food would be a great motivation for me to try out new recipes - at least one every week. Looking back now I really feel that I've come a long way and I'm sure that my fiancé is also happy that he doesn't have to eat the same stuff for the rest of his life. And also, some say that a way to man's heart is through his stomach - so I must be doing something right as he did propose. :)

Apart from my love for home-cooked food I really enjoy eating out and I'm so happy it's something that my other half loves as well. Sometimes it is so nice to go out and enjoy a good meal with some nice wine and not worry about a thing. Also, I love travelling and trying out local cuisine whenever I'm somewhere new. I have to say that I've done quite a bit of travelling here in South-East Asia and I've tried so many new things that I hadn't even heard of before. I've also discovered that I really love Thai and Indonesian food - something that I would have considered too spicy for me to eat a year ago!

If I'm not studying, travelling or cooking I tend to spend my time doing my other hobbies - pilates, golf, diving (that usually happens only when I'm on holiday) or reading and since I got engaged planning the wedding as well.

Love,
M.
